Safe sanitation: for the body and mind

Bathroom, restroom, porcelain throne. John, potty, loo… Whatever you call it, about 2.6 billion people don’t have one.

This causes serious health problems for the effected communities. According to the World Health Organization, sewage infiltrates the drinking water supply and kills millions of people every year. 1.6 million people die each year just from diarrheal diseases – 90% of which are children under the age of 5.

Equally importantly, however more often overlooked, are the psychological health benefits of safe sanitary access. In January of this year Subramanian Swamy, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the largest political party in India, said that “Provision of an adequate toilet system is crucial for gender equality.” noting that women seeking relief in an “open field” or “at night” are much more susceptible to sexual attacks.

Let’s be humanKind and make shit happen – for a sound body and mind.
